In January 2007, a group met together in the old county jail building on the square in Montague, Texas, for the purpose of identifying area visual artists and finding out what kind of art was being produced in and around the area once known as the Chisholm Trail.

The Red River Quilters\' Guild (RRQG) began in 1984 with a few people gathering together the first Monday night of each month to quilt at the Yarn Shop with owner Louise Sommerville. From the small beginning, the guild has grown to more than 100 members. The Red River Quilters\' Guild (RRQG) is a non-profit, non-discriminating organization. Its purpose is to presever the heritage of quilting.
Meetings
Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at the Wichita Christian School 1615 Midwestern Pkwy, Wichita Falls, Texas. Registration begins at 6:30 P.M. and the general meeting starts at 7:00 P.M. It includes business, a program on quilt related topics and a show and tell time.
